Transfer video from DVR hard drive to computer

Anyone have experience transferring your video recording from your DVR to a laptop?

I want to store some video footage from my DVR, to keep on record, by saving it to my laptop as a video file (ie. avi or mpeg).

I have a Clover DVR, but the concept should be the same with other DVRs.

So I'm guessing your DVR doesnt have a CDR or DVD Burner ?

cd writer or dvd writer on the dvr unit would be preferred, does your clover dvr have one?

if you really want to send it to your laptop instead, then ethernet would be the way to go

my dvr is not clover, but it has both a cd writer and ethernet
I have copied mpg video files using both methods
