Depends on what state you are doing business in. Here in West Virginia, we have to collect and pay sales tax on everything... dry cleaning, W & F and ...get this...all vending income. That includes, not only snack, soda and soap, but all revenue from washers and dryers. I believe there are 4 other states that require sales tax on all vending income. So of 18 cents of every $3.00 collected in the 35# front load goes to the state.

My advice to you since I don't know anything about Texas law, see if the Texas Dept of Revenue or whatever it's called has a website that will allow you to surf on and read the law regarding sales tax. That way you might be able to get your question answered without tipping your hand. You could also ask your accountant or lawyer.

Weston, Ditto on the WV taxes. I think we can thank Mr Caperton for that change. Just think of the equipment we could buy with that 6%. I have 2 mats in the Charleston area. Maybe we should band everybody together and hire a lobbyist to remove the tax. Barbers and personal services are not taxed like us, so I complained to the Tax dept and they said that personal service were not taxed and I said there is not anything more personal then washing someones underware and they didn't see the humor in that.

In Florida, as in most states, all goods and services are taxable unless there is an exemption listed in the tax code.
