We have recently lost a trusted attendant to an illness for about a month. She has been our weekend attendant in our busiest store. When she returns she will give up her Sundays. In the past she has had about 700 in change. With a safe backup
of about 1000. She would use all the backup by the end of her shift Saturday. Sunday's have always been a problem.

The new attendant has been given 500. This is alot for an attendant who has yet to prove there honesty, but this store is
very busy. So here is the problem, I was awakened from my beauty sleep this am, at 7am. The attendant went throught the
500 between 5-7am. Either I or BraveDave has to go to this store on Sundays to refill changers, but not at 7am. WHat do you all
do for attendant change money? Or is this not a big issue/concern for you.

Not sure if you are talking about quarters or large bills. In either case, either install another change machine, or install a bill-to-bill changer.

The problem is with paper money, someone suggested fronm another board that we may find it useful to post a sign stating no bills larger than a 10 prior to 8am or so. What do you think?

I think it is unwise to inconvenience the customer. It is also unfair to ask your attendant to keep so much currency on her person. A bill-to-bill changer could solve your problem as could an ATM machine.

A Bill to Bill changer is the way to go. I'd be very nervous not only trusting someone with this much cash, but also from a robbery standpoint. "Lead us not into temptation"

This bill changing has always been an issue for us as well. We keep a cash drawer with 200 and then a back up of 800. We are out by Sunday at noon normally and I hate to leave more money laying around, so I usually make a trip to the store every Sunday. We hold the amounts the same and it all must balance on every shift, we have had few problems with the reserve cash being missing. But I do worry about a hold up. In our situation having change on hand for people is a reason to come to our store as oppoesed to the cheaper flea bag stores in our area. I have considered a bill to bill. Does anybody know if they work well. I heard that you have to put nearly perfect bills in them or they will jam alot. If they jam often they are of no use.

I don't like the idea of a bill to bill, I have been posting on www.coinwash.com and received much input on the subject. I liked the idea to have the attendant replenish her 1's and 5's by getting her own quarters from her 20's and giving the customer the quarters directly. We too, beleive in the customer service aspect and do not want to take away from that. Even if we are inconvenienced on Sundays. Check out that other board.

I just want to add that we have the same problem in our Card store as well. Contrary to popular belief, many people do not like to put $20 bills on their cards anymore than they like to get $20 worth of quarters. We give a free $2 bonus if you put a $20 on the card and people still bombard us with $20 bills for change. The card has been no help to the change situation. What are some specific reasons against the Bill to bill changer?

Have the same problem with my card system. Some people have no problem puting $20 or more on the card, others insist on only puting $1 on at a time. Have the added problem of people coming with $50 and $100 bills and expecting change. The bill-to-bill option is sounding better every day.
