Anyone that keeps detailed records, have you noticed a very large difference in machine usage by physical placement in the store. I just did a detailed analysis of my 18# machines and saw a perfect linear relationship between turns per day and distance from my card machine (imagine same could be for distance from a change machine). Went from an average over an entire week of 7.1 TPD near the card dispenser to a low of 2.4 TPD at the far end. It was a perfect line, not even a scatter of one being off the line. I could have drawn a line and plotted the points on a line. I was amazed, as an engineer I never saw a more perfect correlation.

Howard you touched on a subject that I think needs some discussion. Placement of washers in relation to change machines and vending machines. I have noticed that the washers near my change machine get a lot more use than the washers that are further away from the change machine. All my large machines are near the change machine. Customers seem to use the 18, 25 and 35 3er's in preference to the smaller machines. Even thought the smaller machines will do the job. I have also noticed that customers will sit nearer to the vending machines also. What do the other guys think?. Just a comment

My washer rows come out perpendicular from up against the wall. The machines closest to the open row ends get more use than the machines in near the wall, FL machines in the front of the store get more use than the FL's closer to the back. The last row has the TL's, and they all get a very good workout!
Now to get people to use the bottom tumblers of stacked dryers!

My dryers see no difference in usage by top versus bottom. There is a noticeable difference with the onces closer to the front getting almost twice as much usage as those towards the back of the store - but zero difference by top versus bottom.
It is interesting because I did my original analysis because I had always heard that bottom dryers don't get much usage - but my store does not follow that pattern. (Yes I am sure, my card system gives me exact data)

I do keep detailed records. The trend is obvious and consistent. My machines at the front of the store are used the most, with each successive row decreasing in usage. I have 4 machines in each row. The second from the end gets the most use, followed by the end unit. I don't understand this, but it is consistently true. The one by the wall gets the least use in each row.

My machines closest to the front of the store also get the most usage. Both washers and dryers. My changer is in the rear of the store as well as the soap vendor, but for some reason the customers prefer the machines near the front. Perhaps it is because I have tables with chairs by the windows.

I don't keep detailed records like that, but just from observation the washers that are nearer my dryers get the most use. My layout is rather unique, as you enter the front door you are greated by a row of 6 FL 3 facing the door, 3 away toward the dryers, then a line of 8 TL's (4x4) perpenduclar to the FL and a line of 6 (3x3) that are perpendicular to the line of 8's. Around the sides and back of my mat are the 15 single pocket dryers. My change machine is located on the wall next to the 6 FL's.
