View Full Version : Gas - What is a good Nymex Plus basis

I was talking to a supplier today and they were offering a one year contract based on the Nymex price plus a basis of 26-27 cents per therm. Thus, if the Nymex price was 70 cents I would be charged 96-97 cents a therm. This does not include my local utility transport charge. My question is, for those of you that buy gas on the basis of Nymex plus, what is a good basis - does this seem good for the North East?

Cleancloths,
I would just stick with your local gas supplier (PSE&G) and go on the roller coaster of gas prices. All those Energy Marketers seem kinda of shady..

I haven't spent as much time on this as I should, but I did have a few energy marketers calling day after day, asking for me to send them copies of my utility bills. After I sent them, they never contacted me again! I called them, and they promised to send something out, but never did. I called one guy again on his cell phone, and he told me that he quit that job, because the company would never send out contract proposals. I called the company directly and told them the whole story. They promised to send out a proposal again, and never did. So I gave up for now. Maybe I'll try again when I get some more time.

But I agree with you Jeff, seems like there are a lot of shady characters in the energy marketing business. Has anyone out there had a good experience with these guys?

CLeancloths,
What have you decided to do? If you are dealin with a gas marketer read all the fine print in you contract.

if you can lock at 96 cents that is great considering where the price was when gas skyrocketted you raised you prices so the way i see it more profits when i locked in my local was charging me 1.55 a therm i locked in at a much lower price so i was golden just raised prices so the profits where better and if the gas goes up again i will raise my prices and the profits will be even better. Worst case scenario even if the gas does come down back to 40or 50 cents a therm they can blend and extend but if the gas come down that far are you really gonna lower your prices.??????????????????
