I'm interested to know how much people are paying Managers. To get some perspective could you explain what sort of responsibilities do you ask, hours required, machine repair, accounting tasks, do they oversee other employees or work alone, etc.

Does anyone pay a manager to do everything and if so what?

I started out paying my manager $8 hourly and he was on the schedule 40 a week. He would stop by the store all the time and clock in so it was killing me with overtime. I went to 1,500 per month salary for a while. I was just getting started and was barley making all my expenses so I cut him back to about $1000/mth. He about freaked but he stayed. He works M-F 7-3pm and never on weekends. He is awesome at customer relations, fixing equipment, and is very dependable but really lacks on the business side of things. When I am away he makes all bank deposits and runs the shop like he owns it.

Having a manager that you can trust is essential. He has saved my bacon many times. He only lives 1/2 a block from the store which is a real incentive for him to stay.

Managers should be expected to call in and be on call occassionally. You should either designate weekends and pay a shift dif or give days off after the weekend shift. You can compensate your employee to vacation time. He would be much more beneficial if he had bookeeping expereience,
