Those of you with unattended laundromats, what do you do with clothes left behind by customers. Do you leave it in a basket? Do you save it in your back room? Do you toss it in the garbage? How long do you save it?

I put the laundry in a bag and place it on a table.
I have tried to lock it up but usually the customer doesn't know where it is or thinks it has been stolen.

I use to lock it up but the customers never came back looking for it. I leave it in a basket for a week. During the week it gets smaller as customers steal what they want. At the end of the week it goes in the garbage.

We used to bag it and save it in the back room but then people would call and expect us to come down immediately and get it out for them. Forget that! Now we remove it from the machine and leave it out for a few days. If it doesn't go away we give to Salvation Army. (An exception is if I know it belongs to a regular or is something obviously really nice, which isn't oftne.)

I dry it if it was left in a washer, fold it, bag it, note the date and the machine on the bag, and wait 30 days before it goes to good will. I have signs up that say FORGET ANYTHING? IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE LEFT SOMETHING HERE, CHECK BACK WITH US BETWEEN 8-9PM NIGHTLY. That's when someone is there cleaning and closing.

We bag it and tag it. If it is not claimed after 30 days or so, I'll gather all the bags up and donate them to the local homeless shelter. As for individual pieces, (socks and stuff) we have a lost and found basket in the store.

I usually put in a bag, wet or dry and leave it out.

If it's a good customer, (I review my tapes daily) I'll put the clothes in the back and try to catch up with them. (They tend to launder the same time each week.)
