Hi,
I am thinking of going around neighborhood apartments and houses to distribute flyers for my mat. I want to make sure I do not break any rules. What is the general rule?
Should I leave them in mailbox or leave on windshield wiper of the car or go in apartments complex and leave at the door.
Please advice I do not want to be in trouble.

you can't put stuff in people's mailboxes - I know that - the other stuff I think is no problem -

Depends on your local laws. Door hangers are not allowed in my town.

brite,

The Post Office will call you if you put them in any mailboxes.

The apartment complex will be mad if they see door hangers for your laundromat and they have their own laundry equipment on premesis.

I tried sticking the flyer under the door of each apartment so that they do not show from the outside. That works pretty well until you stick one under the door of the apartment manager (without knowing it). Also, try to be discrete and work quickly so you're in and out of the complex within 15 minutes or so.

I found flyers to be quite ineffective even though I was targeting appropriate neighborhoods. I was very disappointed.

If FLyers do not work what is the best way to market your mat.

brite,

The best short-term (1 year or less) advertising solution is your local TV station. However, that is usually cost prohibitive. Check into it anyway - maybe you could do just a couple of ads per week.

The best long term (more than 1 year) advertising is effective outdoor signage and word of mouth. Make sure your outdoor sign is bright (like you) and easily read from at least a block away. Create word of mouth advertising by making your laundromat the best you can make it. Customers will tell others that your laundromat is the best one. I have a few long haul truckers as customers and they tell other truckers that the Muskegon Laundromat is the best one they've ever found.
