I'll never forget ...
... it was about 1964, I was 14, my dad had just opened his very first laundromat. The place had 18 nine pound Speed Queen toploaders (20 cents), 4 twelve pound Speed Queen toploaders (25 cents), 2 twenty pound Amitek "Mi T Boy" frontloaders (50 cents) and 8 fifty pound Small Dryer Co dryers (10 min/dime).
The 2 Mi T Boys were bolted to a single 6 inch thick concrete slab that set on the painted concrete floor next to a manifold. One day, one Mi T Boy was running and the other was empty.
Suddenly, what to our amazement, there arose such a clatter ... we sprang from our seats to see what was the matter. The Mi T Boy was extracting and it quickly walked the concrete slab out into the aisle! We killed the power and stopped the vibration ... what forces had caused such rapid migration? The paint on the floor acted as a lubricant between the slab and the floor ... the torque of the spin completed the chore.
