I have this bright idea of getting into the coin laundry business by starting off with a single operation, and provided it's something I enjoy, expanding and owning multiple locations. The objective is to leave the stressful world of working for someone else, and enter the stressful world of working for myself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Working for myself, at least I have some control over my destiny.

Do many of you rely on this as your primary source of income? In other words, is this your full-time occupation?

Just curious.......

Seadweller,

I've been in the laundromat business since I was 19 years old. This is the only occupation I've had except for a couple of years in Vietnam. It's been very challanging and very rewarding.

I have been self-employed all my life, but in the laundromat business for 2 years. My other business is struggling because it is related to the textile industry, and many of our customers are moving off-shore. I was attracted to the laundromat business because it is the polar opposite of my other business. Also because my kids are all teenagers so my wife wanted to get out of the house, and we will have a home-grown reliable workforce for the next 10 - 15 years.

We last year we earned about $60K from our store. We hope to do better this year due to some new machines and a price increase. If my other business gets worse, I will probably buy or open a second laundromat.

Seadweller, I am full-time into Phase II of the coin laundry business. Phase I involved full-time buying, improving and paying for the business. Phase II involved selling them and then living off the proceeds while the other guy does all the work. Phase I is good, but Phase II is MUCH better.

I own 2 mats one I owned 1.5 yearss and 2nd 2 months. This much better than my first business doing emergency cleanup for insurance companies.

left the corporate world last year after being tired of trying to shove a square peg (me) into a round hole (9-5 paper pushing).

Yes, this is now my livelyhood. (Or as my wife calls it "my mistress")

I miss the regular paychecks and affordable health insurance, but do not think I could ever go back.

Laundromats is all we do. I would never go back to a regular job again.
