I told my wife I would post this question and see how some of you deal with it. She has a "thing" about taking in pennies, nickels, dimes and even rolled quarters and making change for our customers. She does it and doesn't let on that it bothers her, but it does. She wants to know if you have customers, many times the same ones, that come in with a pocket full of change to exchange and if so how you deal with it.
Thanks

I handle it with a smile. I'm a bit more grudging with the ones who want me to break a hundred dollar bill. We sometimes have large families arrive and cause as much distraction as they can, with making change or demanding lots of attention. While some are causing a distraction, others are robbing us blind. If I am there I make them settle down or get out. If my attendants encounter these families I tell them to enjoy the show, that these people are more accomplished thieves than we can deal with. At least they are travellers and only spend about a week in our town.

I always make change. 2 fives for a ten, someone gives me 2 dime and nickel for a qtr, etc. I don;t care how they want it, just remember they are trying to spend thier last dime with you, treat them with respect they deserve. I am not familiar with the previous post, IE sounds like scam. Most my customers are exchanging small change for qrts, or breaking big bills for smaller ones. It is NEVER a problem to take care of a customer
All of our stores have changers with coin acceptor/accuumulator. They take dimes and nickels and return quarters.
The customers seem to like the accumulator, it also frees up the attendant for other duties.
We collect between $50.00 and $100.00 in change per week at each store.

The bank hasn't said "no" to me bringing in change, so I'm not going to tell customers "no" either. I have to roll nickels and dimes anyway from the soda machine, so what's a few more over the counter? I agree 100% with the comment that your customers are there to spend money, and the easier you make it for them to do so, the more they will do it!

We deal with people who dont have a large bank account, to our customers that hand full of change may be all they have. I take the change and ask how much it is, I dont count it.

YES, WE USE THE SMILE APPROACH TOO!. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IT IS JUST GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO PROVIDE WHAT EVER CHANGE PEOPLE NEED TO USE YOUR LAUDNRY. If the jerk operator down the street does not want to provide change or take dimes and nickels, customers are welcome to bring their money and dirty clothes money to my store! I have bills to pay!

Whenever possible, I try & make change. When I work my shift there, I make sure I have extra 5's & 1's so I can accomadate the customer. I think its all about customer service, whatever we need to do. Change is a relatively small issue.
