View Full Version : Searching limited on this forum?

Searching for answers (by key word) on a forum, before posting a question, is normal ettiquette for web forums. When I search this forum, the website let's me search ONCE, then says "You cannot make another search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes".
Are CLA web administrators purposely trying to cut down on such searches, forcing people to just ask questions that have been previously discussed?
Limiting the ability to search through old discussions lessons the value of this forum -- good information slips away and is replaced by repetition.

There should be a setting the admin can use to change the search frequency.
The reasons to limit can be two fold, one is to prevent double tapping the search button by mistake, the other is to releave the server if too many searches are being made. NOt sure what server they are on, but it does feel a little slow.

I'd like to second the complaint and add to it that the default is to only search the last week. If the item I'm searching for was covered in the past week then I would have already read it. Almost without exception, it is the sum total of the forum I want to search.

I did 6 searches in a row with different words and didn't receive the limit message until the 6th search. I then just went back to the search screen and did several more without any problems.
This server has been slow the last couple of days.
I doubt that the administrator has limited this function, but probably an issue from the last upgrade.
Duane.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I assure you there is no deliberate attempt to limit searches. We will look into this issue and do all we can to resolve it.

Why is this forum so slow to load lately? It's like molassas.

Dryman6,
Yeh, it's like the server has a severe case of arthritis ... or probably something a little more technical than that.
I'm glad it's not my computer ... I blame ALL my problems on my computer.

Michael,
Any work being done to return the server to its former speed?

Michael,
Hey, it's working much faster now ... just like the old days (2 weeks ago). Thanks.

Since I made the original post on this topic (~9/25) the site is lightening fast -- thanks Mr. Admin!
Now back the original topic...
I just searched on the keyword "floor" (I'm putting a new floor in my store so I want to get smart /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif:
Comment #1) the first time I pressed "search" I got two responses from the last week -- as someone pointed out before, the default should be AT LEAST a year (or better to the beginning of the forum).
Comment 2: I tried to search a second time, this time manually extending the search time frame to a year. This is the message I got:
"You cannot make another search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes. Please use your back button to return to the previous page."
Mr. Admin -- could you do your magic again on this issue. Easy searching of this forum is very important as it cuts down on repetition and makes it a much better reference tool.
Anyone else agree?

Just try it again. When I get this message I just try again and it works.
Yes! itsaplane. That's standard operating procedure on most forums. Keeps down the redundency.

I haven't had any luck finding members in my area. Is there a way to search the member list by state?

It would be nice to be able to know who they are and maybe pull up their posts.
