What Has been the best way you have increased business, advertising? Flyers? Ads? Banners? In store promo? ??????
BMWHD3060, IMHO, the best way to increase business is to keep the mat clean, clean, clean. Keep the equipment in working order. Update equipment as necessary. Spruce the place up a bit. Some freshpaint, some moderate remodeling. I'm just about done with my bulk head renovation project, for example. I'm getting great customer feed back. These are things that mostly take your time, and some elbo grease, and very little capital. ( except for new equip )If your place looks and operates better than the other guys, the word will get around. Forget about gimmicks. Offer a great service at a fair price ( the leading price ) in a shiny clean store, where everything works, and the mat will draw the customers in. Tom

BCW,
I agree 100%. I've done hundreds of promotions and ads and I've found them to be virtually worthless for bringing in new, long-term customers. Fixing the place up does bring in new, long-term customers though.

But do the promotions help get the word out?

keep store clean and machines working, customers hate it when machines are down and they have to wait. i love it the dude next door i went there this past week and had about 20 broken down machines, i have snice seen alot of new faces come from there.

I would agree with keeping the place CLEAN, Freshly Painted & Keeping ALL The Machines working is the best thing to do, I have already done all that, would you all agree or disagree to hang a sign or advertise telling everyone the place is under new ownership or new management? The old owner let the place get run down & was pissing off customers, one other thing this is my second store and it is the only Laundromat in a 15 mile radius, I'm the Only Laundromat in Town.

Hey BCW I am laughing all the way to the bank. ha-- ah LOL .
yes hang a sign thats what we aer about to do beging the new yr. ppl like to see a change of management if the old place was run down, just make sure when they walk in to make them feel like its there 1st time there and its notihng like the old place.
Sorry Bodman, it just hit me as funny. Everyone in town knows me, so they would think that I had lost my mind.

I totally agree with signs - I hung a set of grand opening flags on the posts out front and a very large "under new management" banner between the posts. After the second month I hung the banner inside the store on a bare wall so new customers who come in know why the store is in better condition.
I painted and hung some art work on the walls along with fixing equipment and upgrading things. I also turned it back into unattended after 5pm to cut back on payroll.
The three keys to success have always been -
Keep it clean.
Keep it well lit and safe.
Keep the machines working.
Newer Large size washers and dryers with a clean store , low prices and frendly employees . Hopefully you already have the good location.

Neal, i have everything you suggest, I'm Not a fan of Low Prices, I think that ruins any business if you base your business on having low prices, I offer a great service for the price I charge, I have never been the cheapest/lowest for any company I have ever owned, even when I first start out, you might start slow but it Always works for the best for me to be med to high priced with a Great store/service, clean. My 2 cents.
