New to the business in 2007 & quickly realized i I needed to understand how to fix machines after the first two doctor, I mean service calls eat up profits.
I could use help in diagnosing my latest dryer problem.......the coins register, the electronics seem in tact, the belts are not broken, but the drum does not move. Any ideas?

Thanks, Joel

SonomaJoe, without knowing the dryer make/model (always helps) I'd say it was your cylinder motor failing. Swap it out with another from a working dryer. If it works, leave it in that dryer and take the bad motor to a repair shop, to be fixed. You should have 2 motors, one for the blower and one for the cylinder. You want to swap out the one that turns the cylinder (drum)

Tom P.S. I'm assuming that you are able to turn the cylinder by hand.

Most of my dryers only have one motor, but they have two belts. Perhaps the original poster can come back with a specific make & model in order to get a specific answer

As a show of unbelievably GREAT spirit, another local owner stopped bye & helped me diagnose the problem. I owe you one Dave!

no problem Joe,,, I beleive that even if we are competitors we will have more benifits by working together since our mats will draw different type of custormers. There is plenty of custormers for both of us by just doing what this site says and pull from the old crappy mats which both of ours are doing right now. I do beleive in carma.
Ok , Joe has either a speed Queen dryer or maytag. I worked on five different brand dryers at other loctions and cant rememeber which one he had. There are two motors, one for belt and one for air. when you turn on dryer the air fan is roaring which I beleive is a lint build up or bearing. easy enough to pull motor and correct. what is getting me is the dryer wont heat. No its not the air swicth ,even with the the fan its pulling in fine. I didnt have my tools when i stoped by, but could it be thermostate (high limit due to not enough air for burner but enough to pull in air switch ? The two problems may not be related since I have no experience with his specific dryer since they all have their own personalities. I hope I gave enough info of the dryer that someone can identify the specific dryer.

today i had my SQ30 EG stop rotating. turns out there was a screw in the basket and it had fallen into a crack in the drum and caused the basket to stop turning. You might check the breaker for that one and make sure it is not blown.

Dave, It might be as simple as the gas valve coils for the no heat situation. What happened to SonomaJoes dryer not turning condition? I thought that was the problem? Does it turn now? If not check the belt to see if it broke.
