Hello everyone, just curious if any of you are involved in any other business besides mats... Personally, I'm researching a coin car wash and car rental opportunity at the moment.
Regards,
Besides the mat, I manage 3 other building's as far as the day to day maint. needs/issues.

I am a partner & manage full-time an office building, Also, own & manage my own rental apartments. Have had 1 laundromat for 3 years & 1 for 2.5 years.
I worked a computer company for a few yrs, saved up and started a wholesale cell phone company called wholesale cellutions. We have been in business for 5yrs and sell about 100k cell phones a year, we supply all of el salvador, and most of latin america, middle east with iDEN cell phones.
Hope to own a few more laundry mats, and retire from the cell phone biz, its good money but no time for family or fun.

I own a couple hundred pay phones. I have been in that business for 12 years, but at this point, I don't recommend it. Cell phones are slowly killing off pay phones (which is why, a couple of years ago, I bought a laundromat).
I have another business which sells textile software and machinery. That business used to be very profitable, but these days it stinks due to the textile business moving off shore, to countries that allow software to be bootlegged. Our best domestic customers have closed, and it is real tough to sell in China.
I got into the laundromat business because my wife wanted something to do now that the kids are old enough to take care of themselves - and need all of those tuition bills paid by mom and dad. I really like the laundromat business, it is stress free when compared to my other business. It is also nice to compete with the store across town, rather than some off shore company, practically using slave labor to gain an advantage over you.
I am liking this business so much that we have made an offer an a second store. I hope to be a 2 laundromat owner soon!

I have a carwash next door and a rental apartment upstairs.
This is how I bought the place.
eventually I am adding coin-op showers for the hikers, tourists, campers, hunters, etc. (I have the world's slowest handyman working on it sometimes)
After I pay off the mortgage I might buy the gas station & convenience store next door if it is still for sale.

Our family has been in Newspaper Distributions for years. My father and 3 uncles worked inside the plant, My mother, aunt and myself are all involved with home delivery. Newspapers are a failing industry which got us into the Laundromat business with two mats and hopefully more to come.
