Hello, I was wondering what software can be used to manage the laundromat business. I am looking for software to automate most of the process. Does Quickbooks offer this capability? The card systems do not publish much on what features are offerred. Or am I ahead of what is available.
thanks

Stephen,
I have the Card Concepts Card system and it does a great job reporting total sales or sales for each machine. It handles all of the income reporting of the store and also acts as a time clock for employees (I don't have employees....) and records machine down times. However, it does not handle any expense reporting.
For expenses I know that many mat owners use Quickbooks, I find that a simple Excel spread sheet does just fine. My Expense journal (spread sheet) is easy to use and I can modify it as needed.
If you are anyone else is interested in a sample copy of my spread sheet just send me an e-mail to EJsample@LMARIES.com and I'll send you a sample of what I have set up.
Currently I only write 1-2 checks a month. I have everything possible automatically drawn from my checking account and I use a debit card for most everything else.
One last trick you may already use. A lot of companies will let you pay with a credit card so get yourself a credit card that pays good air miles and charge everything each month to your credit card then just pay your credit card off when it comes in. Within 6 months you should have enough miles for two round trip tickets anywhere in the USA.

I believe that QuickBooks is the software of choice for most laudromat owners. It's pretty simple, does everything that you need it to, and its relativly inexpensive and accountants are familiar with it.
Duane, that's a good idea about the credit card. How do you go about finding a good one?

Laundry Mike,
The easiest way to find a good credit card is just open up the junk mail they send you.. :O)
Just shop around by searching the internet, junk mail, TV ads. When I was a consultant I used the credit card for everything and then just paid off the balance each month. Never paid attention to the interest rate since I never paid any interest. Pick a card that has a frequent flyer program with a airline that has flights out of the airport closest to you.
Also, do the same with your personal bills (Utilities, mortgage, phone, groceries, car payment) and you will be suprised on how fast you can get tickets.
