Does anyone here know if Laundromats are required to pay sales tax in New Mexico?

Thanks!

Typically you need to pay sales tax only on the money you bring in from tangible items -soap, bag, and hanger sales. If you sell t-shirts, hats, lint brushes, laundry baskets, etc. In most states, you don't have to pay sales tax on the money you collected on Self-Service washer and dryer revenue, WDF, or Dry Cleaning.

Starting in November (I think) WDF and other services will be taxable in Ohio. Self serve will still be non taxable.

there is no typically: each state is different. When you apply for your business lisence you should also get (or ask for) information about taxes in your state. Any just because there aren't any now, don't think they won't try to add some later. Keep good, well organized records.

It is my understanding that the Ohio sales tax on drop off services went into effect today, OK, yesterday (August 1) Do people who are taxed find it better to charge the tax to each individual order, or to keep the charge to a round number, and pay the tax based on the percentage of gross sales?

Laundry Mike,

Yep, you are right. The sales tax for drop off and dry cleaning went into effect Aug 1st.

I don't do any WDF or Dry cleaning, but if I did, I would probably just charge the tax just as any other business does. If you include it in your normal price then it looks as if you are charging more. People are use to paying taxes on almost everything else. If your competitor just includes it in his price, then it makes your price look lower.

Just post a sign stating effective Aug 1st sales tax must be collected on all drop off laundry services.
