I went and looked at a mat this afternoon that is for sale that had a brand name of dryer called "Norge". The larger washers were called "Wascomat", and it had 24 8-10lb top load washers called "Raytheon Econ-o-wash". Are these brands familiar to you guys, and if so, what is your opinion of them?
Thanks,
Dave

Except for the Wascomat it sounds like the equipment belongs in the Smithstonean Institute. Even the Wascomat might if they are BlueTops which is about the same vinatage of the equipment you describe.

Dave,
I agree with Howard. If you decide to purchase this mat, consider a complete renovation with new equipment. As old as these machines are, the new machines will save you a considerable amount of money on utilities.
Maybe even convert to a card system.
Duane.

They look like they belong in the smithsonian! Thanks for the confirmation.

You guys are right. The equipment is outdated and anyone who buys that mat wouldn't be able to sell the equipment for more than its salvage value. Where can I find prices for new machines and what brands do you recommend? I'm either going to think about remodelling this store or building my own down the street.

You can talk to a local distributor for pricing, but ball park you can figure washers will cost about $100 per pound of capacity and stack dryers about $4,000 each.

Hi Dave,
Wasco's have a date code that is part of their serial #. For example serial # 8910****** means that the machine was built in Oct. of 1989
Econowashs are made by Speed Queen, They are a single speed washer with a porcelain tub. Their serial # also has a date code.
Good Luck,
Reynolds
