Has anyone had any success in resurfacing or repainting fiberglass folding tables? Is there any hope for them once they start getting too scratched and gouged? New ones are quite pricey... How about building your own using pre-cut countertops from Home Depot or Lowes?

PeterH,
I built my own bulk heads using counter top laminate. Once you have the right tools it is easy. But if you add up the cost of the material and factor a little in your time it can still be expensive to build tables and I don't think you will have as nice as product. Most prefab counter tops from Home Depot, Lowe's, etc., usually have a large back splash that may not work well if your table is not against a wall. Check to see if they have prefab island tops so there won't be any back splash.
A local carpenter can probably build them for about the same price you could and have a better finished product (maybe...).
Another option would be some stainless steel tables. I know Global Industrial Equipment (globalindustrial.com) has some at reasonable prices. Should last a lifetime.
Another thing would be to see if you can just order the tops and keep your old legs if they are in still good shape.
