Anyone ever try having open mic night?

Has anyone tried having like an open mic night, or poetry readings, etc. on slow nights during the week? I thought maybe newer local musicians might be willing to play for free to get some exposure.

Yeah, try Open Mic Therapy Night. You get a better turn out if there is full moon.

On a more serious note, I'm closing on another laundromat near a university & will try different market ideas like a poetry slam

Does anyone really want that stuff ? My customers just want a clean well run store with plenty of machines. Thats the reason they come in to my store.
