We are new owners and have never been thru a holiday season before. We are closing Christmas day but staying open Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and New Years Day. Is this pretty standard?
What experience can you share about holiday revenues? Thus far our December is down. Is this typical?
Thanks

In time, if you track your sales, you will start to know your patterns. The sales can vary from mat to mat since there are many variables such as mats close to Universities, mats that are close to vacation spots, migrant workers also can boost sales during summer time.
In general I have noticed December to be somewhat slower (not including the leave of the students) since most people are getting ready for the holidays. On the other hand the mat has been slow for a few days and then it gets slammed all at once for a day or two - even in the middle of the week.
I also noticed when the weather changes (from better to worse, or vice versa) that people tend to alter their patterns. If the weather changes to nice then they want to be out enjoying it. If the weather changes to bad then they tend to stay at home. This usually lasts a day or two until they get accustomed to the change.
Always chart your sales from week to week so you can get a pattern started. It really comes in handy when considering a large purchase to know if your sales are going to be strong for a few months or slow for a few months.
If you purchased your mat then check with the previous owner to see if he can give you some insight.
