I am considering adding a payphone. Can I make any money on this? Verizon wants $75/month service fee. Has anyone tried a payphone ? Thanks.

I don't know where Elm St is, but I sure know where Salisbury Beach is, spent much time cruising as a teen..
Back to the question... I have 3 payphones now, they all make money. most paid for themslves within a few months. Verizion is screwing you, but it costs them $$ to send out a union member guy to collect , so they have to charge $$ to offset. There has been alot of discussion about this at coinwash dot com, you can search that site for key word payphone. The best thing to do is call the local phone company and ask about putting in your own payphone, they will tell you what you need to do. Here in Florida I had to registar as a public utility, and pay a fee, also I have to file every year and pay a small percentage. Find out what the local requirments are, you should be able to make some money off your payphone, not pay to have one.

Thanks Pete.
Verizon is now quoting $135 activation fee and $35 per month if I buy my own phone. This is more reasonable.
