10 days ago my landlord was digging outside of our strip mall. His plumbing contractor accidentally broke the water main to the building. I was not informed of the accident until a customer informed me of the event (my mat is unattended). My busines was out of operation for 24 hours and sand and sediment continue to clog my machines. During the past 10 days I have accumulated over $1500 in expenses from rebuilding valves to refunds for my customers. I have no way to determine the value of lost good will. My question, how do I put pressure on the landlord to pay for these damages? Any thoughts? John

Go after the contractor directly - he is the one that did the damage.

What are the pros and cons about attaching the landlord and the contractor to seek damages? What about persuing a claim against my insurance. My landlord states, "That's what insurance is for..."... john

Why would you go after your insurance for damage that was someone else's fault - that is why they have insurance. If you go after the landlord (which you could) he won't forget it next time you have some need. Go after the contractor.

I agree with Howard, put the pressue on the contractor, he did the damage, he will pay. Continue to call, show up at the office, etc. It may not be easy
