Hi all, im Bob and new to the board i am currently looking to purchase a mat which has 20- 6 year old neptune washers, they appear to be in ok condition but a customer told me they have been breaking down quite a bit lately. I am wondering if this may be a situation where they will need to be replaced or with some cleanup and repair will they be ok? Also, are they easily repaired and serviced generally? The mat has been poorly maintained for the past few years. Thank you for any info!!!

Bob,
If the Neptunes are 6 years old then they were probably some of the first models of Neptunes produced. With any new product line you will have issues that are worked out with each newer model. When needed, repairs on the Neptunes have so far been extremely easy for me. If you open one up you will see that the design of the machine makes it easy to work on.
If the store has been neglected then the repairs of the machines have also probably been put aside so it looks to customers that the machines are always breaking down when in fact it probably has been the same machines out of order for weeks at a time.
Some of the repairs are probably just simple things that can be fixed easily, but the current owner just doesn't want to spend the time on doing the repair.
Check with your local Maytag distributor, they usually have a basic repair school twice a year or so that will give you a better understanding. If not, just pay a good service man a couple hours of his time to go through each type of machine you have and show you the quick repairs. It really isn't that hard. Hire him for the whole day and he can fix your equipment and give you an education while doing the repairs.
Maytag now has a 5 year parts warranty, so if you do decide to replace your Neptunes with newer models, you won't have to worry about parts for 5 years.
Send me an e-mail and I might be able to send you some info that might help in purchasing a mat.
Duane.
