I for one like things well lit. I believe the brighter the better and more people will come. Just like bugs come to bright lights people feel more secure in a well lit area. Having said this, building a new laundry and lights just went in. Our plans call for a 4 bulb fixture however the contractor put in a 3 bulb fixture. He is saying a T8 and T12 fixtures offset each other in illumination. Anyone knowledgeable in this area and what you like as lighting i.e. illumination, number fixtures per square, parabolic, ect.

Go with the T8 fixtures. They have better color rendering, run cooler (saves A/C energy), no flickering or humming and will save you electric.

Once installed you can always add a few more fixtures if you feel a need for more lighting in certain areas.

I presently have two rows of double tube 8 foot strip lights. Would the t-8 or any other energy efficient lighting have enough energy savings to to justify replacing. They are on 14 hours a day, 365/year. It might be easier to justify replacing the 3 of the fixtures that also serve as security lights and stay on 24/7.

I would think that by replacing your lights with T8 fixtures you could achieve better lighting by being able to place the lights throughout the store, rather than in two rows.

The savings may take awhile to pay for the project, but the immediate benefit of better lighting and improved look of the store would be enough for me to do the change.

Search the INTERNET with the following.

T8 T12 light comparison

This should give you some sights to make a decision.

One other option that i did was just change the balast to t-8
and the lamps worked great.
