After all the fees and costs of locking in gas prices wouldent it be better to just buy from the local gas company in your area. I mean really how much power does a small laundromat have in locking a good price ? And if the prices go lower your stuck with that price for a year.

Neal,

By way of example, the New York CLA chapter just locked in a gas price for one year that was 20%-30% cheaper than what the current utilites were charging. Of course, in a volatile market, the price of NG could fall even more and that would probably bring the utility's charges more in line with the NYCLA's negotiated contract price...

I'm still scratching my head. Nymex gas prices at rock bottom prices. Yet my NGrid bill is the same as last year - with about the same usage???

are you on gas company billing or 3rd party supply? Did you lock last year? I am at nymex last trade day plus 3 cents. My gas bill has dropped with the market. I have not looked at lock rates, but I would not take anything less than 50 a therm right now. If you are worried about hurricanes buy 100 UNG stock in June and hold until Oct.

Thats great Ned. I was just reading that the airlines locked in fuel prices over the last year and some are paying 85 dollars per barrel when the market is 45-50. Why are the local gas company in NY more competive? A friend of mine with a few stores in San Deigo locked his electric price with Enron a few years ago and after all the fees it was more than the local electric company. Well good luck and lets all hope for lower gas prices.
