HAS ANYONE HAD ANY LUCK WITH THE CLA INFO ON GETTING YOUR SEWER BILL REDUCED, SINCE SOME OF THE WATER DOES EVAPORATE IN THE DRYING CYCLE. IS IT WORTH TRYING TO FIGHT FOR IT. THANKS

SmellySock,

I've not looked at CLA's info yet but in the past, some operators were able to obtain evaporation allowances from their local utilities.

Whether it's worth it or not depends on the amount of the allowance that can be obtained.

I currently have a separate meter for grounds irrigation and I don't pay sewage on water used for that purpose so utilities may be conducive to an evaporation argument.

I would pursue it if I were you. We did, although without CLA info, and as a result we have a 15% reduction in our sewer bill. And was it worth it? I believe any reduction to be helpful in this economy.

Wow you really pulled a fast one on the sewer authority. Look at it this way, if a washer uses a nominal 2 gallons per pound of capacity then a twenty pound washer uses 40 gallons of water. If you managed to claim that 15% of that water does not go down the drain that is saying that 6 gallons of water come out of the washer with the clothing. Since a gallon of water weighs 8.34 pound then when you take that 20 pound load out it has just slightly over 50 pounds of water with the twenty pounds of clothing -- yea right tell me about it.

Do you have any ethics at all? If so you need to go back to the sewer authority and negotiate a lower allowance, probably less than 2%.

Although I don't owe you an explaination, I will explain so hopefully not everyone reading this will have the same poor opinion of me that you seem to have Howard.
I didn't negoiate that amount, I asked if there was any reduction. That is what they allowed us as they had the laundromat businesses in this location prior to ours. We still pay extremely high water and sewer charges here and I don't feel guilty for having asked about a reduction nor do I feel guilty at all for taking what they offered, even after seeing your calculations. So did we "pull a fast one" on the sewer authority? I don't think so. All we did was accept what they offered. I was sure they didn't pull that figure out of thin air and believed they had calculated the issue prior to our opening as we are the 4th owner in this location since the 60's, and the only laundromat in town. My point to Smellysock was there was no harm in asking and that any reduction would be nice.
But thanks for the ethics lecture Howard.

Wow Rocki, sorry to get under your thin skin :) I guess since you are kind of new here you don't understand my sense of humor. I was really just poking fun at you, you have a great deal that you should enjoy. I was just trying to show you it is totally bogus and that there technically should be almost no allowance. Relax and enjoy.
