Took my Tamron 200-500mm lens to Foote's Pond Wood Park in Morristown NJ to see some nature:

WOW!
Those are fantastic Howard!
How far away from those objects were you?
Is that a fixed f/stop?
I have a Canon EOS 20D.

Some of the shots (the big frog and the flower) I was fairly close to the others were quite far. Its a nice lens, but it is not super fast if is f/5 - f/6.3 but works great in good lighting. I was using it on Nikon my D300 which I can push the ISO pretty high on without noise.

Those are some sweet shots. I still remember standing over a tray of Dektol watching my enlargements appear under the red light. How times have changed!

Wow...amazing pictures, Howard.
Did you need a tripod mount for the camera? I have a Nikon D40X, but only an 18-55mm lens. I'm still learning how to use all the settings, but I've heard that the larger the lens the steadier the hand you need to take a clean shot.

Well that is one big lens and it has a mount for the tripod on the lens and the camera typically hangs off the lens. I took that one with the tripod, but the one below was actually taken hand held and that lens does not have image stabilization (VR). I have a Nikon 70-300VR which is much easier to hand hold:
