I've got about 1/3 of my washers doing $1 coins now, but some of my Huebsch 30# are taking both quarters and dollar coins but they both drop into the same box.
Did you have this problem, and if so, did you have a quick way of separating the 2 different coins ?
I'm thinking of making something like a screen siv to separate coins.

Dave,
I assume those 30 lb washers have a drop coin meter that accepts quarters and dollar coins through one slot. If that's the case, I cannot think of any way to reliably separate the coins into 2 sections of the coinbox. I suppose a screen would, in theory, put the quarters onto the floor of the box and the dollar coins would remain on top of the screen but without some sort of shaking/vibrating of the screen, I don't think it would work. Perhaps you could try this: make the screen arch from 1 long side to the other long side of the coinbox so the dollar coins fall to the sides and don't block the quarter hole under the drop meter.
My customers have become fully adjusted to my Dollar Coin Only operation. I get no comments that my prices are too high and I haven't had a complaint about my dryers not drying in many months - except, of course, when a dryer actually did fail to heat. I am 100% satisfied with my system.

Sooper, I don't know if this answers your question, but is an alternative solution. I'm installing a coin tube option on my (quarter) bill changer. That way customers can get 4 quarters back for 1 dollar coin. I can now shut off the small coin option on machines that take both coins.

Tom,
I cannot visualize what you are describing here.
Are you saying customers will be able to change a dollar coin for 4 quarters ?
What is this coin tube thingy ?
Thanks.
Sooper,
My mat is unattended. I have 1 Hamilton changer for quarters and 1 Hamilton changer for dollar coin. On my changer vending quarters there is an option for coin. In other words, an add on unit that holds quarters, dimes, nickles, or in my application just quarters.(like a pop machine)
Now customers can get 4 quarters back for a dollar coin. They just place a dollar coin into the coin slot in the cabinet of the bill changer. This completes the conversion to dollar coin in an unattended store. You will be able to shut off the quarter option and just vend dollar coin on those machines that currently accept both. Then the customer can take any unused dollar coins and change them back to quarters, to use in the equipment taking quarters only. It's a solution working well in an unattended store.

Yes, I get it now. That's a nice option to have, my stores are mostly un-attended.
But I have American Changers and don't have that option.
I've got 2 changers as well, 1 for Q's and 1 for dollar coins.....
Larry advised me to put a big, "LOOK!!" sign on the dollar coin dispenser to try to get people to know what they will get out of the dollar coin dispenser, and that has worked pretty good....
If you check with American changer they have an optional coin mech that you can add on to do the same as the Hamilton, you just have to have the model number and serial number of the changer.

I put a divider in my coin boxes. I get more quarters so I made the quarter side larger

Another good and simple idea.
