Recycling works great in an opl operation where you have consistency (same soap, same bleach, no softeners, no paints oils, etc..). The problem in a coin-op is that you never know what will be in the water and that screws up most filtration systems. If you know of something that works I'm game.
Solar could work, but I think the best bet is something to reclaim the heat that goes up the dryer vent - that's one hell of a lot of heat.

I don't have any personal experience with recycling water, however on Cape Cod there was a guy who put a laundromat in the box of a tractor trailer and recycled his water (the Cape has a water shortage). Initially it was hailed by the local newspaper, but eventually The Cape Cod Times quoted some customers as saying it was like washing your clothes in water that you used to boil lobster! Not a ringing endorsement. He has since moved out of Provincetown because his location (parking space) was sold out from under him.
