I have just purchased a mat that has 21 GE toploads. 11 were due for replacement (5 years of service) and 10 had maybe a year or so left to go on them. All are currently working and have been maintained well. I just placed an order for 21 new speed queens and will be pulling the GE toploaders out in about a week. I am not going to just junk them as some have good parts on them and some others could still be used a while longer. Any suggestions where I might get rid of the whole lot? Is an ad in the Journal worth while for old equipment? Any one had any luck on Ebay with stuff like this?

Thanks!

Why do you feel compelled to replace 5 year old tops? Just because the magic number says lifetime is 5 years doesn't mean they will not perform for you. Do you see transmission problems? Tops will many times outlive their 5 year old lifespan in an atmosphere that has taken care of them. Maytag has 25 year old tops still taking quarters in many mats

You know, your right, these machines probably have a good 20 years left in them, unfortunately for me though I have already committed to new tops and a few front loads so my loss could be someones gain! 21 top loads all running and for sale! Anybody?

Dump them in the ocean and they would make a nice reef for the fish.

If these GE tops are the ones with the plastic tub, there useful life is about up. Don't feel bad about trashing them, I had to toss mine after 3 years.

Take them to the scrapyard where you'll get a few bucks for each of them. You'll get twice the life, and be a lot happier with the Speed Queens.

Why scrap a perfectly good running machine? Even if the life cycle of the GE top is not long and fruitful, why not utilyze every breath before cutting your losses? As we have heard, some MAH14's have done well for some owners while some machines have been nothing but trouble, but the word is not to trash every single model.....though you would not necessarily want to purchase any. So, why would you toss a machine away before it produces trouble?

I remember trying to scrap 6 tops about a year ago. I drove them to two different scrap and appliance yards. They would not take them. One guy offered I pay $10.00 per machine!!!

LOL..
I left them in the street in front of his place by doing a burn out and letting them slide off the truck!!
