Fellow Owners:
We are about to re-vamp our website (We have an average one right now)
www.destinlaundry.com
Does anyone have a favorite laundromat website or have a really sweet one themselves?
We are trying to get layout ideas, flash vs. no-flash, etc.
Any links would be appreciated.
The web will be the most important advertising tool in the near future - especially with all of these smartphones. The days of the yellow pages are about over...

Harley, I like the sites like Duanes (lmaries.com) that have live video of the mat. It helps to see if the mats are busy at the same times. Thanks Duane.

Harley,
CLA has a very good website program that's free to members. All you have to do is answer some questions and provide some pictures and they do the rest. Check out my website: http://muskegonlaundromat.findalaundry.org/

Hey guys, what is your opinion on the advertising success of having a website?

Having a website is VITAL in this day and age....Phone books are dead.
Have you seen the new smart phones lately? Everything in the future
will revolve around the web. We are sinking $1,000 into a new website right now, and
are pulling back big time on yellow page ads. Ask anyone from the age of 15-40 when the last time they got out the yellow pages to look up a company...then ask when the last time they did a web search for a company - see my point?!
I have had numerous customers come to our store for the coin machines, w/d/f service, and dry cleaning just because of our website...

I have recieved business off my website. I have my own website and i just got the CLA website.
http://quickwashlaundry.findalaundry.org/
AND
www.quickwashlaundry.com
We have also set up a fan page on facebook.
Anything to try and stay in front of the curve.
I agree i can not remember the last time i picked up a phonebook.
Who ever does not have a website really needs to get one.
My site is hosted for FREE from MSN and it costs me $15.00 a year for the domain.
It was FREEE to set up. So for the money it is the BEST advertising you can get!

I read a question above about Flash vs. non-flash... if you're targeting the widest audience possible, and especially if you're after smartphone users, avoid Flash at all costs. iPhones don't do Flash yet, and Blackberries do Flash differently that Windows Mobile... unless you want to build 3 or 4 separate sites for different browser groups, keep your site as basic as possible... at the very least, get a web designer who can follow W3C standards and built a site that passes the current ACID tests for browser compatibility.
(In my case, my designer choice is ME... it's part of my background anyway.)
I have seen a few mat sites with live camera feeds that show whether the place is busy or not.... it's a great security tool too... hooligans and vandals are far less likely to do evil if they know they can be seen by anyone on the internet...

We have had several customers call or come in after looking on the web, and checking out our website. Yellow pages has gone from being a main source of advertising, to becoming a thing of the past. In addition to the CLA, you can also design your own website through Microsoft Office Live Small Business. There you can get an address with your name followed by .com.

Here's mine. I just threw it together this week using iWeb on my Mac. I need to get a domain name so I can publish it to something with not so long a name but for now here it is:
