I normally do not decorate store...
But I saw some mats did X-max& year-end decorations last year...around December...
Do you do decorations?
if you do, how do you do?
Or, is it just waste of money?

this will be our first holiday season and I am putting up garlands and low cost stockings wreaths and various decor. we shall see how it goes, we are in a low income area so all decor will be above bulkheads. Check back with us in a month and I will let you know

That would depend on the attitude of the laundry owner and the attitude of the people he calls his customers.

It's ALL about the mat owner and customers' attitude.

If your attitude is "bah...humbug!" then don't decorate. If your attitude toward the festive holiday season is "joy to the world and happy holidays to all!" then decorating is a good idea...

Disclaimer: here's my smart arse sense of humor coming out...

Yes, I have a crew in my store at this very moment decorating for the holidays with large air compressors, jackhammers, shovels and a dump truck!

Honestly, my store isn't open yet... we're completing demolition, removing the 4 slab floors that were buried by the 4 previous owners of the building (KFC red tile floors and dyed concrete are awful!) I won't have an opportunity to decorate for this holiday season, unless we get the opportunity to hit my target date... in which case my decorations will be window painted signs and banners that read, "Happy New Year" and "Grand Opening..."

It has EVERYTHING to do with "attitude"
Attitude reflects weather of not you will be successful. Attitude reflects how you treat your customers. Attitude reflects the overall enthusiasm that also reflects to your employees that reflects to the customers. Attitude reflects if customers feel appreciated. Don't take advantage of your customers newbie.
Treat them right
"After all they are the ones that pay the bills".

From Mars huh. Well that's an interesting concept.

I agree with Stout. Attitude has everything to do with the owner's position and let's the customers feel more welcome.

We decorated for Halloween and most recently, for Christmas this weekend. Maybe we should post some pics.. What say you?

low income area so all decor will be above bulkheads. Is the implication that the items will be stolen? Isn't it a fact that the majority of mats are in and perform best in low income areas?

Interesting, I'm in a low income area and unattended. None of my Halloween decorations wer taken. So far none of my Christamas stuff is missing either. Matter-of-fact the positive feedback that I continue to receive is worth the possible loss if there is any. Thanks.

Of course, everyone including me know Attitude is important....
Regardless of "decoration", we should always keep and show very nice and good attitude , for the customers, for the employees, and for the friends in this board(LOL).

But I was asking about just Decoration!
You answered wrong topic, I did not ask about attitude.
funny answer... LOL

Guys,

My wife puts up so many lights at home that on Christmas eve, instead of sitting by the fireplace and exchanging gifts; we all stand out by the electric meter and marvel at how fast it spins.

Seriously though, we bought a new LED pre-lit Christmas tree this year and I noticed that each of its 504 bulbs uses just .06 watts of power. That means the whole 504 bulb tree uses just 30 watts. Now, if I could just get her to stop putting all those huge, screw-in bulbs all over our outside shrubbery ... we could save close to 30 amps.

We put out decorations this year after a couple year hiatus due to renovations we were doing. Nothing major, some wreaths and garland. I'll take a couple pics.

Here they are, nothing major this year as we are replacing our Bulkheads so no space for plants. I go with the colour co-ordination so blue is in.

Our town does an event where they charge $30 for any business that wants to put a tree on Main street. They bring the tree, the business decorates it, then they get rid of it after Christmas. The tree sits out front, near the sidewalk in front of my 'mat. One weekend, they have a little party downtown and judge the best decorated tree.

Anyway, I saved up about 40 old vended Tide and Cheer and Bounce boxes and taped hooks to them. I also found about a half dozen small brightly colored socks and taped hooks to them. A small Clorox bottle for the tree topper. It was actually a very good looking tree with all the bright blue and orange decorations. Unfortunately we got about a foot of snow and the tree is about half-buried in moved snow.

I'll see if I can't dig it out and post a picture before Christmas. It got a lot of positive comments before the snow!

Dave/Blue Streak,
sounds interesting. I wrapped 46 or so vend boxes of bounce and cheer, (yes 46!).glued on a large framed poster board with white glue in shape of a tree. last week prior to christmas will take down and pass out to customers. have already passed out some a few to long time customers. Yes, it is about attitude! as new owners I get several comments about how previous owner did not even care to make improvements, bad attitude etc.. great opportunity for us to make minor improvements! People recognize that you care even though our customers have little expectations!

I decorate for every holiday and many customers have complimented me. Makes me feel good and customers see I care about things. I think it's a win - win situation unless of course your mat is in an area where things would be destroyed or stolen. That would make me stop or not start at all. I am thankful to be in "good" neighborhoods in both my shops.

I always have ppl comment to me that we are always doing something inside the laundromat to make it better.

The week leading up to Christmas, I go out to the dollar store to pick up bows, well my mother drops them off for me lol. We take the Tide HE sample packs that we get from our supplier and tape the bow onto the package and hand them out to all our customers for the week. We also hand out chocolates and cookies the week leading up. Customers really feel that their business is appreciated.

So everyone New and Experienced alike;

My wife and I were having this discussion about decorations;

What are your thoughts about religious display themes decorated at your laundry for the holidays? Be it Christmas, Hanukkah, Boxing Day, Kwanzaa or even Easter for that event.
Do you have Merry Christmas or is it Happy Holidays or Season Greetings written anywhere? Do you instruct your staff to wish everyone a Merry Christmas or is it Happy Holidays etc.

I use Happy Holidays and decorate and gear towards the Santa Themed Christmas. We have a large majority of customers that are of different faiths and I myself not being of the Christian/Catholic faith either, leads me to decorate for the Holidays but not the religious aspect. So we use Happy Holidays. For my other business which is maintenance related, I keep mental notes of the religous backgrounds of my customers and send out cards geared towards the specific celebrations throughout the year be it Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Budhist and such.
