Guys,

I've been thinking about what this decade might bring ... and what it might take away. Here are my predictions:

1. Efficiency. LED lights will begin to slow the rotation of our electric meters. This will be followed by more efficient electric motors and the total elimination of electric space heaters and electric dryers.

2. Competition. Businesses will compete for the consumer's dollar like never before. This competition will turn away from Price Point comparisons and lean more toward Perceived Value comparisons.

3. Taxation. With fewer workers supporting increasing numbers of non-workers, increased taxation is the inevitable result. Even income from a ROTH IRA could be taxed!

4. Contentment. The average citizen will be less content than he is today. He will have more complaints (especially about goverment), more worries and more financial issues.

5. Social Issues. Rule changes regarding who receives Social Security benefits may leave some long-time contributors out of the picture. Limits may be put on how long one can receive Disability benefits as well. Perhaps congress will even limit or eliminate Industrial Welfare benefits (property tax abatements) nation-wide.

6. Terrorists. A major terrorist event will take place inside the U.S. - probably in a major metropolitan area. This event will terrorize us all and cause sleepless nights for weeks afterward similiar to 9-11.

7. Communications. New developments in micro-circuitry will bring smaller, more powerful devices to the populous. Cell phones will become known as "Personal Communicators" (PerComs) and they will be kept on day and night. Wired phones will become obsolete. Even business phone centers will be using wireless technology.

8. Hot Spots. World hot spots will include: Samalia and Yemen. High-seas piracy will return once the British and American Navy move on to other areas of interest.

9. Full Disclosure. Hithere aka Newbie 123 will finally tell us his name and what state he's in.

So say I ... what say you all?

Larry,

Somali will probably be a hot spot as well ;)

Larry, why do you see a "total elimination of electric space heaters and electric dryers?" My guess is that electricity will be a much better value than natural gas. It seems like someone was working on microwave dryers.

Mike,

Great questions. First, micro-wave dryers will not be ready for wide-spread use in this decade and, perhaps, not even in the next decade.

Electricity will be much more expensive than it is today. Therefore, using electricity in any heating capacity (which is an in-efficient use of electricty) will cost too much and will be discontinued.

But, the government will be providing more incentives for solar power generation, which could lead to over capacity. When everyone's roof and walls generate electricity, there will be little marginal cost associated with additional usage, for whatever purpose.

Just a thought.

I like this futuristic type thinking,
I don't have much to argue with you about RE your 9 points but I'll add a few....
- Higher interest rates, and higher inflation...the Guv is content to watch the dollar slide lower and lower as it has no good incentive to stop it.
- There will come a time in the next 10 years where the dollar falls catastrophically against world currencies, interest rates spike
- Folks that piled into Treasuries over the last 12 months to avoid the stock market melt down will learn that you can lose alot of money, real fast, in what they once thought was a very risk-less investment.
- and the most important prognostication....soap, water and automated machines will still be the primary method to separate dirt and human body odor from clothing. (This is the one idea I've been trying to kill since I entered this biz 10 years ago.)

9. Full Disclosure. Hithere aka Newbie 123 will finally tell us his name and what state he's in.

So say I ... what say you all?

If we could just receive the answer to #9; all the rest would be insignificant.

Newbie you come on here and ask for advice . Our answers are based on our experiences in this business. I have mats in the downtown and ones in the burbs. I do not run each one the same way. So in our effort to answer your inquires it would be helpful to have more information. I for one have been put off by your arrogance and that does not give me warm fuzzy's and lends me to not want to assist you in your quest for knowledge. Just one mans opinion. get with the program. For example ; if you were asking about a new water heater I would give two different answers depending where you live. It seems to me that common courtesy is not prevalent from where you come from.

Newbie, Why cant you just say the state your in. It's not like any one is going to know your Identity unless you the only mat in that state. Also by the way where are you from? Your competitors are not going to know who you are so dont worry.
