View Full Version : How well should dryer doors seal?

When the doors are closed on my Dexter dryers, there is about an 1/8" gap on the hindge side. As they run, I can feel some air being sucked into the dryer. This doesn't seem right to me, but almost all of them are like that. Do they need to be adjusted so that they have a tight seal?

I have had to adjust the nut on the snap closed part but never have looked at the hinged area. I guess I will look tomorrow.

Yes, you do want a nice tight seal around the door. In fact, you want the whole front of the dryer sealed off. Cabinet, lint door, under the machine bottom. Just anyplace air can get into the dryer from the front customer area. You want your air coming in from the back side of the dryer as much as possible.

You risk a fire if there is any significant air bypass at the door. Most dryers work best if the dryer hinge side touches first before the catch side. Making a tweak with well positioned pressure on the catch side of the door frame with a 2 x 4 between the door and the front panel usually does the trick.

Okay guys. I can't believe nobody else is seeing this problem with new Dexter dryers. Almost all of mine came with a gap on the hinge side.

I'm thinking this is something the manufacturer should be correcting.
