Guys,
I just want to commend CLA on the timely and well-written article "The R Word" that appeared in the January issue of The Journal. It is a frank discussion of the state of our economy and more specifically, the state of our industry in this recession. I hope everyone takes the time to read "The R Word" (I've read it twice). If anyone here does not receive The Journal each month, simply call CLA and ask to be put on their mailing list.

Yes, it's a good article. It's enough to make anyone considering starting a new mat think twice. I've been in the drycleaning business for a long time and that business is the worst I've ever seen it too.
Good quotes by you and Duane. I was going to say something sooner, but I got sidetracked.

I read it too. Very good article. Discomforting but true nevertheless.

I used to get the Journal, and I liked it and read it. They do a great job.
But it seemed like every couple months they'd ask me to send something back to them to tell them I still wanted it.....
It wore me down and out, to the point where I ignored it.
So after what seemed like a million, "This is your last issues", I finally got kicked off the mailing list.
I was conditioned to ignore their warnings and now I'm screwed...cause now i'd really like to read that article.
Can you summarize it....please?

Thanks Duane, Great article.
We've got the laundromat superstars here on this board !! (NO sarcasm intended)
I think it was a great point to bring up lease negotiation.
In the last 12 months we just finished doing this and I think it was a win/win for both us and the landlord. We got a long term deal with good terms that allowed me to justify throwing some capital improvements (porcelain floor) into one of the stores last month.
It's a tough time no doubt, our own businesses are down from 2 years ago.
But all in all, it is not down as much as I expected considering the circumstances.
