I'm curious as to what becomes of old machines when they are replaced with newer, more efficient models. Does the distributor selling the new machines take them off your hands? If so, what becomes of them? Are they canibalized for parts? Refurbished and then sold? Crushed like old cars and sold for scrap?

The answer is D. All of the above.

I must be doing something wrong. I am about to gut my laundry for the third time. This time removing 8 tops and 4 super 20's. I posted an ad to get rid of them and got no response. Last two times I could not even find a scrapper to take them. I ended up dumping most of them late at night at a high rate of speed. This time I guess I'll do the same. The appliance scrapper would not take my machine last time, he wanted me to pay him and deliver them to him.

I've had a couple times that I just left the scrap equipment out in the parking lot overnight, and it would be "magically" gone the next day. A few weeks ago, I scrapped out a 30# dryer, took all the parts off it, and still got almost $15.00 from the scrapyard for what was left. Find about any drunk or crack head with a pickup truck, and you'll get your stuff hauled for free.

I dont think you would want to leave your old junk in the parking lot around your mat. Maybe a customer would take it home and no longer need your services.

When I get rid of equipment, it's junk, and I always strip off the useful parts before I set them out. On local trash night, there are always "scrap guys" who cruise the neighborhoods in beat-up pickup trucks looking for anything metal they can find. The scrap value of laundry equip. will buy a considerable amount of 40oz, and Wild Irish Rose.

put them out front with a sign "FREE SCRAP METAL" gone in 60 seconds.

I have sold a number of old tops thru classifieds. Usually around $50 ea. Pull the service door, leave a coin slide.
