Anyone have any suggestions on how to approach an owner about buying their mat when it isn't for sale?

Pick up the phone and call or stop in person and ask. I don't think it is a big deal. I have done that with two owners now and neither one was offended. The one that I met in person has actually been a good source of help since I am looking to build in another town and not compete with him.

Agree with comments from "Burley". Our experience years ago when we were out there was
either you'll get someone who might be thinking about selling and those who absolutely are
not selling. Getting a hold of the owner might prove more difficult than after you contact them.
Simply ask the question, "would they consider selling their business". That's the easy part.
More challenging is figuring out if the business is profitable and worth purchasing. Good luck!

I showed up one morning and ask the owner if mat was for sale he said NO 5 min. later he said if I can get what I want for it I would sell it. We agreed at 60,000 5 months later I ask again with 30,000 cash in hand a bought it for 50,000 as is he carried the note for the 20,000 that is how I did it
