I am a new owner of an older laundromat and was wondering what type of Mother's Day promotions experienced laundromat owners run. I am considering running an ad in our local paper to spur new business. Any ideas would be welcomed.

I can tell you the last place a mother wants to celebrate mother's day is in any laundromat, so therefore advertising under a Mother's Day heading would be silly.

Spring time is a perfect time for a 2 for 1 comforter special if you have a wdf service.

You could always do a Mother's Day promo geared towards husbands who want to give their wives a break from their daily routine to enjoy a day of pampering (read: no laundry to do).

Jack, I am so sorry but my stomache aches from the comment........:) You crack me up!!

While your scenario sounds good in theory it is unlikely the majority of the laundry customer will think this way, even though it is a good idea that men could capitalize on, Very few men in this type of ecomomic bracket would put forth the effort. In addition, most mothers hesitate to make their lives easier and challenge ways that may do so.

Advertising the ease of laundry to the women themselves and offering a spring special and not a mothers day special may entice them more because the guys could care less.

Oh well, it was just a thought. I do agree that right now is a great time for a spring special. Last weekend I spent hours at the mat I want to buy and about 70% of the people coming in were washing comforters, in addition to clothes.

We are not doing any Mother's Day promo stuff this year. Since you were looking for ideas perhaps offering WDF
at a reduced rate might be an idea (this is what we did). The only way you'll find out what to do next time (or not)
is trial and error. We've tried various things like open or not, promo/advertise or not for every major/semi major
holiday and now we think we know what is best for our stores. We may consider re-running some promos from the
past after we get a very large advertising sign installed under our store sign later on this year. Advertising in the
local paper didn't bring in the traffic we expected. Another idea which we had some success with was to advertise
a coupon behind the receipt one gets at the local super markets.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I think my best bet is a Spring Cleaning Special!
