Chad I dont think it's legal, show me the proof from the Attorney General. I had a call the other day from a guy that wanted to put one in my store. When I kept telling him it was illegal he finally admitted it and said if you get caught it's just a small fine like $300.00. When they make it a felony then maybe people will think twice about putting one in. At a Laundromat, how can you keep under age kids from gambling?

Kenny,
I've seen these coin pushers in a couple of laundromats in Grand Rapids, Mi recently. I was very surprised because Michigan only allows the casinos to have gambling devices. I don't know how these laundromats are getting away with it.
I inserted a quarter and it pushed out a quarter. I was even. So I inserted another quarter aimed at the pile of quarters hanging over the edge and I got NOTHING! Damn. I quite.

I had one for about 4 months. I even wrote the Attorney General for clarification. He sent me to the AZ Law Library and it was decided they were ok. Then, just a few weeks ago, my attendant called and said there was a local detective and an Arizona Gaming Commission officer there. I spoke to them on the phone and the detective said they were illegal gambling devices. I then asked to speak to the Gaming guy and he said the same and that mine was the 7th one removed from stores and that they were making a sweep of the town. I pulled out my Arizona statute and read it to him and told him I thought he was wrong, to no avail .......To make a long story short, they confiscated the machine and all the money/prizes in it. They asked me for the contact info for whom I got it from. They unbolted it from the floor and left with it. About 3 weeks later the guy who empties it came in and freaked out that it was gone. He's said it was worth $5000 blah-blah-blah..................I gave him the business cards of the 2 guys who took it. :)
I made about $680 in the 3-4 months I had it. They told me they were not holding the store owners responsible and just wanted the information of the guy who put it in. I still don't think it was illegal in AZ but for what it was making me it wasn't worth arguing about.

I have seen these machines located in amusement arcades. Wonder how they get away with that? The government does not like any form of gambling unless they are the ones that are controlling or running it.
i will keep everyone posted once i get the machines in next week.

In many states, if they're full of tokens with zero "actual cash value", you're not gambling... kinda like the tickets you get playing ski-ball at Chuck E. Cheese... They can be redeemed for prizes, but never hold any cash value.

Just wondering....Are you SURE those guys were cops, and not just a couple of con artists looking to steal the machine?
I've come across police impersonators trying to rip me off more than a couple of times in my life.

While on vacation in Florida last month I visited two laundromats, and both of them had quarter pusher machines.

This happen in game business before.I always told my employee ,anyone show up to remove ,service any machine ,CALL ME ASAP .
Guys show up to a location like laundromat, bar ,told the owner ,they are working for XXX amusement, they come to switch games ,they took all the games and money, they will be gone or leave 1,2 broken ,junk games ,told the owner they will be back to service them...
Happen in my store,2 guys said they are PEPSI servicemen, take a while open the pop machine, then took money and gone,my employee called me after they were gone.

I asked a few arcade, amusement park servicemen about coin pusher.
I was told if it has token inside ,you will not exchange token to quarter. The Coin Pusher is for "amusement " only .
Arcade operators call Coin pusher,Cherry master " gray machine" ,since the law is not very clear or the law is clear ,people still try to get away with it.
Cherry master is not legal in IL (soon will be legal ,only on line machine to be legal,so state can get 30% cut),I still see them in a lot place, they said for amusement only,no payout, most people know they pay out under the table .

Galage,
So, if I'm reading your post correctly, coin pushers are illegal in Illinois unless they don't award a payout and state "For Amusement Only" on the machine. Then they become legal. However, operators often offer an illegal payout under the table. I'm not sure just how that would work though. I'm guessing the attendant would somehow determine the amount someone won and payout that amount from the cash register.

That is why game operators call them"gray machines".Stay away from them!or let someone operate them ,do not buy one and put in your store yourself!!!
I see coin pusher in arcade ,amusement parts ,some arcades are running by large company like Namco ,Namco has arcades all over USA and Japan ,Namco is like Home Depot ,Walmart in game business.
Namco even have their logo on some coin pusher .If they are not legal ,I don't think Namco will have in their arcade ,only token in Namco coin pusher.
I spoke to a few servicemen, that was what they told me ,token is ok!
The biggest money maker in arcade are any machines or games pay out tickets ,the more score ,more tickets, you bring ticks to exchange candy, toy and some junk in the arcade, that is no different than any gambling but since it is "for fun only ",those machines are allowed.People just love to gamble !
I do not know the law,I stay away from gray machines on location ,home owners ask once a while, they put in their home arcade ,I will buy one from friend to resell.I had a coin pusher in my home arcade once,I feel it is no fun to won and loss my own money,so I sold it.
The poker ,cherry master machine are not legal in IL ,you can say no payout ,some cities will remove from your location anyway, everybody know they pay out ,why do you want to spend money to pay poker and no pay out?only online video poker machine is legal in IL since state of IL get 30% cut ,the bill just pass in IL ,since IL really need money to lock up their Governor, last one is in jail now, this one will be in jail soon.
I was told Skill Crane is not legal in Canada and some cities in USA.
I put Skill Crane in my store before ,no problems,it is fun ,I am fixing one now ,I will put in my store soon.

Crane games are legal in AZ and are spelled out quite specifically in the states laws under "amusement gambling. I was directed by our states Attorney General to this law:
http://www.azag.gov/consumer/Statutes.pdf
I went to the AZ Law Library and myself and a legal clerk at the library read this and came to the conclusion that a coin pusher was ok. We felt the coin pusher machine satisfied the requirement to categorize it as an "amusement gambling" device. Evidently the gaming commission feels otherwise.
I know one thing, when the guy came in to service the machine and discovered it missing, he had a shit fit. But he just left mad and I have never heard a word from him or the gaming commission since.
