We just bought an old laundromat and the dryers are pretty old - about 15 years. We took the front of the dryers off (not the lint door but the plate where the door is). This had never been done and you could tell. There was sooo much old lint and junk in there. What we pulled out looked like a piece of foam cusion. We only did nine dryers that day and found over 40 dollars worth of change behind that plate. The change started droping as soon as we losened the screws on the bottom of the face plate. (Money that falls out of the air - got to love it!)

Kari,

You should do this once every year. The conditions you observed are ideal for a dryer fire.

Don't stop there, take the exhaust off the back and clean it out all the way to the end of the exhaust. Chances are it may be easier to replace the pipe than to clean it.

These are normal maintenance tasks that when done on a schedule will keep your equipment running longer and your customers will notice a faster dry time and you will notice a savings in utilities.

Check with your local distributor and see what other tasks should be done for your models of washers and dryers.
