There is no longer assimilation by new immigrants. I wonder how many of the offended students were illegals or anchor babies.

Good question. That principal and vice principal should lose their jobs and the school system they work for should be sued. Wake up America!

I hope more states follow Arizonas lead and do what the federal gov't has failed to do. It might be bad for our business but me we must look at the big picture. Illegals are flooding our country and sucking us dry, they take more then they give. They work minimum wage jobs and have many kids that suck up social services. Think what it cost to pay for all these kids to goto school. I guy has 4 kids going to public school at a cost of $15-$20k a year per student, not mention food stamps, free health care, ect.... Not a bad deal you enter a country illegally.

Interesting read. I've actually read the article and heard about it on several other forums that I participate in.
Do you / we forget that us owners complain and miss these types of immigrants. From my experiences as an owner and end user, the Mexican immigrants spend the most at our mats. They do laundry (don't overstuff the machines as often) and spend quite a bit on sodas, snacks, and games for the kids. Without them some of us would and in fact are, seeing significant drops in business.
From a devil's advocate perspective, why didn't the students pick an alternate day to wear said colors as opppsed to a day that would result in this type of attention. Going a bit further, what do we know about the students? Is this their normal and favorite attire? All of them? I would say probably not.
W/r to the crossing US border list. It's not that easy.

Mexicans are good customers but is greed a reason to let our country be destroyed.
As for the students wearing American t-shirts that should never be noticed or a problem. If 4 mexicans wore shirts with Mexicans flags on them on July 4 and they were sent home it would be the end of the world.
I find it offense that American are mistreated in their own country. Also 2 of the kids that wore the shirts are 1/2 Mexican.
This is sad because this isn't even a real holiday in Mexico. This is only celebrated in a small section of Mexico called Puebla and it is not their independence day. I bet half the illeagals that are celebrating and the people that got offended by these kids have no idea what this "holiday" is really about.

Yes, we are having great fun here in Arizona. The only part of this new law I don't like is the fact that every legal citizen cannot make the arrests. I figure it wouldn't take more than 1 month to eliminate ALL illegals in Arizona if they would just let us legal citizens catch & release. I know a street corner right now where I could round up 30-50 of them.

Well this thread went south (pardon the pun).
I find it interesting that this whole ordeal over Cinco de Drinko was started by people on the northern side of the border as another reason to celebrate and sell more party favors.
sfla is right. 5 de Mayo is not a significant holiday in Mexico. Somehow it became one here.
If school officials had any common sense, all they would've had to do was inform those students that they were violating the flag code. It's improper to wear the flag on a t-shirt. A flag pin worn on the lapel is proper, but dipicting it on clothing is a no no.

Tom;
We as a people have now taken flag displaying to a different dimension.
There is no fines or penalties for anyone to display the colors and our flag in any form like there use to be. I have seen merchandise displayed with our flag on it in so many ways.
I've seen it on paper plates, napkins, motorcycle helmets, "Old Navy T Shirts", pickups, bikini swimsuits, tattoos, notebooks, pencils, 18 wheelers,
yard decorations, electric lights, Popsicles, cake decorations, lawn chairs, got coolers, pins, stickers, emblems, coins, medals, stamps, towels, blankets, banners, airplanes, ski equipment, hats, ice cream, Christmas decorations, race cars, etc. Heck even at the Olympics it is worn, or used, as promotion material by our own athletes.
I have had people tell me it is there way of showing "their patriotic" side. As of yet I have not found it offensive except in a few cases (Ok the bikinis are stretching it a bit.)
You have to admit our flag is now being flown and displayed, in various forms, more since 911 than ever before. Even more than in our parents and grandparents times.
In our area the local Boy Scout troops put the flags out at homes and businesses on every U S holiday, that have subscribe to it. They do it as a fund raiser and I gladly support it. It is so wonderful to see street after street of U S flags, in front of houses and businesses that have subscribed to this service on the holidays. Besides we are teaching our youth to continue with this tradition.
Does anyone else do this on holidays at their business and homes? Do you display U S flags or flags from other countries where you originated from?
Why or why not?

Deward,
I proudly display the American flag from a 10 ft pole atop the main entrance to my laundromat every day of the year. See the pictures on my website: http://muskegonlaundromat.findalaundry.org/
I find that the flag wears out before it gets dirty so washing it is not necessary. We simply replace it about 4 times per year to keep it looking stately. Cost of a new 3' x 5' flag is between $6 and $29 depending on the quality one wants.
I see that Menards currently has 3x5 flags on sale for $3.77 so I'm going to get a half dozen or so. I find that the cheaper flags last about as long as the very expensive ones and they look the same when viewed from a distance as in my situation.

I have and always will hang a flag. I, also, happen to have been in the Air Force for the past ten years. Tom is completely right in the fact that the way they were displaying them is actually considered desecration. I have no problem with it because that is not the intent. It is, however, an interesting point.
As far as those boys go. If it was one in the group I would have been outraged. Though, seeing that it was the whole group I have a feeling that the intent was not American pride but something a bit more sinister. How dare they use MY flag to portray anger, prejudice and purposefully insight violence! I have bleed for it, I have made others bleed for it, my friends have been lost for it and I have made others loose theirs for it. Some of the reasons I have been put into those situations might have also been less than popular but overall I completely trust and love my Country / Government. For someone to then turn it into what their intentions most likely were is despicable!

Maybe the boys were outraged by the fact that the Mexican culture is usurping American culture. The fact that it was even noticed these kids wore the tshirts is the problem. If a bunch of Mexican kids wore Mexican flag shirts on July 4 it would not be a problem and nobody would even notice.
