View Full Version : How much detergent for larger machines?
We have 80lb, 60lb, 30lb, 20lb and Toploaders. What's a good guideline for amount of detergent per load? I understand the larger machines actually use less water, therefore need less soap. I was told 1/4 Cup soap per Load. Can anyone clarify this or offer a suggestion? Also is it actually 1/4 Scoop or Cup? Thanks!

Look in your manual for each machine - it will say specifically. I have 25 and 40 pd machines and my manuals say 1/4 and 1/3 cup respectively. I'm sure your machines are similar. I generally don't worry a tremendous amount about the HE detergent and all the measurement specifics - I just tell people to put in not any more than what they would do for one single load in a top loader.

1/4 cup per load is about right, depending on the brand and type of detergent. Tide. and most name brand detergents will suds greatly, while the cheaper store ones, like the$1.79 a gallon stuff, do not look like they work at all.
If a 40# washer is about 4 loads, than 1 cup should be about right. If cheap Purex or Extra, than at least double to make a suds.. scoop or cup? depends on dry or liquid. Use 1/4 of what is called for, per load capacity.
