Has anyone read or heard anything about CLAs "Todays Coin Laundry" ?
So far everything I have seen from CLA is first rate, I am just curious about this particular work.
Can you recommend any books, videos etc for someone wanting to learn more about this industry?

I don't know about "Todays Coin Laundry" but check your library for "Coin Laundries-Road to Financial Independence" by Emerson G. Higdon. Might be hard to find anyplace but a big city library or order a copy from the publisher. They run adds for it in the CLA Journal market place section. Well worth the $50.00 price.

Thanks, Joe.
Any help in the right direction is appreciated.
Do you work in the industry?

Personally, I would say save your money and read the board. You can also try www.coinwash.com (http://www.coinwash.com) both these boards are more useful than outdated published information and address more daily concern topics IMHO.

I have a different view of books on the coin-laundry. Even though the CLA BB and coinwash have great people giving great advice, you can never have enough information.
Buy a book or two and read them.
Visit your local distributors and attend their seminars.
Join the CLA
Start doing your laundry in a local mat.
Participate on the bulletin boards
Search the net
Take your time, absorb information and in the long run you will have enough knowledge to continue your adventure in the coin laundry business. And if you decide not to become an owner, then all you have spent is a few hundred dollars and some of your time. If you do become an owner, then the money you spent will save you possibly thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars.

Thanks for your response and information.
I currently follow 3 of your 6 suggestions.
I work in the coin op industry and do a lot of traveling, so I try to visit as many mats as possible and talk to a couple of owners on a periodic basis.
It is just that most industries with seemingly low barriers to entry always have a lot phoney books that may include in the title phrases such as "start your own" or " how to."
I agree with your opinion about industry publications, I just want to make sure I am buying and reading the right ones.
How useful are the seminars?
Thanks

Oliver,
The seminars are usually just simple repair courses and product demonstrations. A lot of fluff, but if you attend a seminar from each of your local distributors you will learn more about all the available equipment and get to talk to other people that use each distributor and find out what they think of them.
I agree on the "how to" and "get rich" books, but even those will give you some information. This is why you talk to people, read many books, visit local mats, attend seminars, etc., etc.,. Over time your own knowledge will start to kick in and you will be able to make educated decisions.
Maybe I'll write a book - "How to go from traveling the world, to cleaning a laundromat bathroom in just 16 months......"
