Thanks for replying to my question about horse blankets. Could you please give me more detail about how much per blanket, what size machines you use, any special detergents or anything that you can think of to help us.

Thank you

According to our market we priced 1.25 a lb. Ou average wdf price was .85lb. It will depend on your washer vend prices. Horse blankets must be washed in the large fronts. One could fit in a triple, 2-4 in a 50 depending on the size of the blankets. The horse pads are usually the most hairy. We did not allow people to launder thier own blankets because of the need to rewash and sanitize the machine after each load of blankets. By limiting the laundering of the horse and animal blankets to your wdf service you can charge a premium price and reduce your other clientelles disapproval of the system. You can successfully accomodate both your regualr customers and your biannual horse blanket customers. THe horse blanket clientelle is used to paying high prices for thier hobby, so you can charge a premium price and not be sorry for it. The last season I was employed we grossed over 3k in the spring.......and the fact it takes very little labor and dry time makes it very profitable. Good luck

I am trying to determine if I should begin accepting horse blanket drop offs for w/d/f. What are the concerns other than washing the machine on an empty clean cycle?

Sorry - I hit post too early...I also wanted to know how the posters (jcrush) and others fared with their ventures into horse blanket territory?

most of my "horse blanket" - saddle pads really - are washed by the customers themselves, in the carwash bay, on rinse (no soap). I've had a few use the Milnor 35#, too and then ask for an old towel to run through afterwards. It gets the machine cleaner to do the follow-up washout with something in it rather than totally empty.
I never had an saddle pads in my WDF
