Some times my customers ask the attendant to transfer their clothes to the dryer if they have to leave after they start their wash. Does anyone charge a transfer fee? If so how much?
I try to stay away from doing favors because the next attendant may not get the memo. I hate it when I get "Well when so and so is here they always do it for me." Makes me look like an idiot.

no transfer fee here - in most cases my attendants are tipped though.

When you or your attendant takes the initiative to be helpful to your clientelle by removing clothes from the washers to the dryers you are taking responsibility for the clothes. ITs one thing removing customer clothing from a washer for other customer use, but another when you place in the dryers . You can be setting your self up for issues. Attendants may do this for a "tip" but if you offer a wdf service you could be setting your self up for unneccessary issues in the event...let say LIPSTICK??? CRAYONS........the laundromat owners nightmare! Where do you place the responsibility? If you provide wdf, I suggest you charge 60-70% of your service charge for dry and fold only. The service is a combo, not one or the other. If you do not have wdf and you cannot keep your attendants from providing this convenience to your customers.....remind the employees that THEY are taking the responsibilty of those clothes, and I suggest signs reiterating that fact.

We have a transfer fee of $2.00 per washing machine. Explain to the customer they bear full responsibility
for their clothes (signs are posted). We only transfer clothes work permitting or if it is not very busy. The
attendants keep the transfer fee in addition to the tips. So far we have had no problems doing this. When
too many issues crop up we'll relook offering this service or not. Not only do customers want their clothes
transferred they also may request we fold their clothes. We charge .50cents per lb to fold/bag their clothes.

I dont charge a transfer fee and see it as part of building customer rapport and providing that little "extra" which keeps bringing them back. A couple of DIY customers have converted to WDF because they get to see how much easier it is just to leave it for me to do while they go shopping etc.
If i felt that a particular customer was taking advantage of this and doing it every time Id probably apply a surcharge. Hasnt happened so far.
