I have a Mortal Combat II arcade. When I power it up I get several eprom blocks in the self test turn red. Then the machine screen comes up all snowy. Any suggestions or insight as to what I need to look at?

If the game has sound,no picture ,the monitor is bad.
If you can see picture ,it maybe the main PC Board ,PS .
I do not work on MK much ,a lot Midway game has a battery to save setting ,similar to car remove battery .
A few more suggestions:
1,check if it has battery ,if it has, replace it .
2,check power supply ,should read 5.1vdc and 12Vdc ,5v to run game ,12v for sound ,if 12v is low or high ,no bid deal .You can adjust the ps to right voltage.
3,if you try A and B still not working ,MK is a jamma system ,you can plug in a jamma board to see if your monitor and PS work .
You can buy a cheap working jamma board on Ebay for $10+shipping ,if you can not find one,I may able to get one for $20 shipped ,use the jamma board to test your monitor and PS .
4 ,if you try #3 ,monitor has picture, plug in your MK ,still no picture ,your MK board is bad .

Kerry,
Galaga just gave you the 30 second primer on testing out your Mortal Combat. He really knows his games.

I was going to suggest Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Select Start, but something tells me galaga's ideas might work better!

Do you check out your MKII ?
Check your website ,you have an original MKII from Midway gaming.
MK II is the most popular game in MK family .

Ok, the machine will turn on and starts to go through the self check but get a "CPROM" error. Then monitor shows all the self tests graphics ok but after the check fails it goes to where the monitor is all snowy. Do you know what causes this galaga?

You have bad PC board or power supply .
Check the ps ,the the voltage on the board ,pin 1,2 are ground ,3,4 are +5vdc ,put meter on DC ,put on pin 1 and pin 4 should read +5.1 v ,if not adjust the ps to +5.1-5.2vdc.
After check voltage ,next will be your PC board.
Some Midway games have battery on the PC board,if it has ,change a few one .
You can buy a working MK 2 or 3 board on Ebay ,do not buy any untested board on Ebay ,most "untested" boards are bad boards .

It does have a battery. I pulled it the other day & will bring a new one down next visit to see if that fixes it. If not I'll try plan "B". Thanks for the info. :)

It is a BR2325 battery and guess what? Once I removed the battery from the game, the game works!!! ....with no battery.
