Yes, I know running a laundromat is a lot of work and the absentee owner model doesn't really work. I've been so busy with development of #3 lately, however, that it caught me off-guard when I tuned the security cameras in just now...

First I was mildly mesmerized by the wall of dryers tumbling quietly, then a row of washers sloshing soapily caught my eye. Then I realized both of my stores are running at 80-90% capacity right now, and have been all day...

All of this is going on while I shop for a pinball machine, modify my cable lineup, play with my kids and make dinner reservations for the family. I guess it's just the novelty of everything running smoothly...knowing that our stores are making money all by themselves while we do whatever we want to live our lives as a family.

We can get so caught up in our calculations of revenue as a percentage of gross and payment systems sometimes. When was the last time everyone just sat back and watched or listened to their business and building humming along?

Case that is a great post and I agree with you 100%. The only thing is not everyone in this business knows hows to operate there stores and keep them in tip top condition.

For those that do....They are left with time that is priceless that they can spend with family, play sports, etc.

Just because we own a laundrymat does not mean we should not take advantage of all the technology out there that can help us in this business. To many owners are still old school!

...HA! and I just noticed the "Ed Ellis" banner ad at the top of the page too. I guess there's a big difference between "listening to your business humming along" and total absentee slacker-ism.

Yes Case, all that is true, and let me add another piece of feel good thing about this business....And this doesn't always happen to everyone who enters this business....Walking in the store on a saturday and finding the store packed with customers, everything is working as it should, and more people pulling up with their cars.

This scenario feels especially good after recently opening your doors to the public. You take a risk, work your ass off getting the store off the ground, get some setbacks, pick yourself back up and get the store open, and then....the sweet satisfaction of having more customers than machines.

Case,

If my store starts humming too loudly, I start looking for where that noise is coming from. :) Honestly, though ... it is nice to own a store that provides a great service to the community, is appreciated by the customers and generates a reasonable profit.

Larry you are right on the money.

It does feel good to provide a great service to our community, because believe it or not, some customers do appreciate a nice clean store that it well taken care of!

Sigh...... those pleasant dreams .... can they ever come true. Sometimes we click our heels like Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz" if only we could come home .... only to wake up & find ourselves in our laundromat!

Another one .... if we ever do get caught up on our work .... then we will ......
