View Full Version : Tweeting is fun....

Yesterday I tweeted:

"Washer #3 is lonely, if you break out your best dance moves in front of #3 from 12 to 5pm today you will get a $4 bonus on your next visit."

I checked the cameras had one girl doing some kind of cheer, another did the Y-M-C-A dance from the Village People, and a couple of other dancers.

Once of the dancers was a new customer as she bought a card then did her dance.....

The funniest thing was watching some of the older customers faces as they were doing their laundry and someone would come in, do their dance and then walk back out.

Duane-

That's flipping brilliant! I hope you don't mind, but I think I'll borrow that one next week.

Out of curiosity, how do you know which account to credit the $4 to? I assume you're watching them on camera, but do you really know each customer well enough to identify them dancing then pull up their account in the database for a balance or bonus edit?

After that tweet I added another tweet and had them swipe their card twice in the bathroom door. It doesn't cost them anything and when I look at that reader and see two swipes from the same card I checked out the time on the camera system and see if they danced.......

And they did dance.

You would not dare to tweet that around my mat.

I am located B E T W E E N 2 strip clubs.

You would get entertainment you did not bargain for.

Some folks have all the luck! How do they say? "Location, location, location!"

I'll second Case's comment: that is truly brilliant!

Your post reminded me of a scene I noticed six years ago, when I had just bought my store, and it didn't yet have a TV set. It did, however, have a radio that played through some ceiling speakers... it was usually tuned to an "easy listening" station. As I watched the cameras from home one evening (shortly after I installed the video surveillance system), I saw a young couple dancing in the aisle in front of the washers. They continued to dance together after they moved their load to a couple of dryers. They danced while folding their load -- a fascinating thing to watch. Holding opposite corners of a large bedsheet, they did a complicated ballet that resulted in neatly folding the sheet -- and all in time to the music!

This made my day! Also, Duane, it makes me wonder what else you can get customers to do for a buck :D Silly hat day? That would be easy enough to pick out on the cameras.

Um, have you seen some of our customers? Not if you want your eyes to blow out of their sockets.

Duane,

I love this idea! Can you think of other ones that can be used for people who have a coin laundry? Do any of you think that people would be comfortable doing this in an attended coin laundry mat?

Suzy;

Yes I believe it could work in an attended mat. I did something similar at Halloween time. I gave away free wash to anyone wearing a costume on that day. We advertised it in advance. I only got a few people who took me up on that offer, but we sure had a lot of fun. my attendant and I even got dressed up on that day. We took pictures and made fun out of all of it.

Suzy,

I think it would easily work in an attended mat that uses coins.

Check out my twitter feed and see other things I have done.... LMARIESmat

Let's re-visit why KJ picked a location between two strip clubs. Come on, do you how many G-strings it takes to fill an 80 pounder?

Hey, you don't know how many times I have come in to what appears to be a empty dryer running.
I go and shut it off just to see a G-string fall that was so small it was just rotating with the drum.

Then I ask the girls? Can't you just dry those things with your bathroom hand dryer or hair dryer?

I love it, I love it, I absolutely love it! I'm moving to Ohio post haste so I can do my dance! Maybe I can Skype it instead! Do I have to buy a card first?:D

You don't have to buy a card, but then again how do I give you your bonus money?
