I got a really really stupid question but is it possible to switch water/sewer company? I think it's a regional thing where you are bound to do specific company based on locations. Thanks.

How many water mains run under your street? Chances are, it's just one, in which case you're stuck...usually with the city or county municipality's water district.

I have lived places where you had a choice between paying the city for pressurized service from the pipe, or self-service from a well that the county would help with (and charge you for.) I've also seen plenty of private water systems which are then shared via a contract or property deed.

Really, each property is quite different, and to answer your question directly, it's very likely that what water/sewer service you have is what you're stuck with.

While Case is correct, it just got me thinking. Maybe we should be allowed to buy our water from another source. In many places there is only one gas line or one electric line, yet we can buy the commodity from other suppliers. The owner of the lines charges a fee for transmission and metering but the secondary supplier gets paid for the commodity. Maybe we need to get our states to deregulate water as well so that we may buy the commodity on the open market. Interesting concept.

Now THAT is a great idea! The water boards around here could definitely use some competition. However, I imagine that they would just jack up the "delivery fees".

Which reminds me....If you are using ESCO's for your gas or electric, check your bills. Some of them promise you one price on the contract to get you to sign up, but after a month or two they start jacking up the rates, knowing that most people will not notice.
When you complain, they say "oops, we must have made a mistake".
